FCC Chairman Michael Powell Sees Bright Future for Online Media

"The admitted techno-geek sees the Internet fitting in with -- and ultimately influencing -- print and broadcast journalism. But he frets that lack of filters threatens information overload and a loss of credibility."

OJR article: FCC Chairman Michael Powell Sees Bright Future for Online Media: "Powell's belief that consumers have enough diverse forms of access to news and information to warrant loosening the media ownership rules stems in no small measure from his own use of technology and media. The admitted techno-geek thrives on technology, weaving it throughout his personal and professional worlds"

Hidden inside Powell's extolling the net's virtues...

...lie his true objectives;

1) Scare America into thinking we need "information filters" on the internet, provided by the Feds, of course.

and

2) Control the number and type of news Americans have access to.

"Powell's belief that consumers have enough diverse forms of access to news and information to warrant loosening the media ownership rules ..."

So now, the "gommint" vis a vis Powell is going to decide FOR US whether or not we have "enough diverse forms of access"...

Trivia question; How does this encourage or infringe upon free speech?
For whom?
The citizens, or the corporations??

(sound of hippie puking)

What if America had a free press?
